Vegas, baby!

Well, it's the morning after our concert in Las Vegas, and I'm eagerly anticipating seeing who actually makes it to the bus on time for our trip back to Southern California. :-) Last night we sang with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Varsity Men's Glee Club at the lovely Green Valley Presbyterian Church in the Vegas suburbs. The UNLVVMGC is a town-gown ensemble (mostly gown) that sings a wide variety of music and distinguishes themselves by running on and off stage while wildly shouting. It was kind of cool, but I don't know if Club guys have the energy to pull off something like that. They sing really well too! Here I am with UNLV conductor David Weiller and their accompanist, Barbara Buer.

We had a great audience that really enjoyed the concert. We opened, then the UNLV men sang a set, we sang again and then we closed the concert with the Biebl Ave Maria. There wasn't a dry eye in the house! The folks at the church were great, providing dinner before the concert and taking care of our every need. We really appreciate all the work by David Weiller, the conductor at UNLV, for setting up this concert! And though there were no Glee Club alumni in the audience, there were a number of UVa alumni who came out to support Club.

After the concert, the bus returned to our hotel, which is one block off the Strip. We're supposed to leave in about an hour for Long Beach, where we'll be participating in Cal State Long Beach's March Madness Invitational Choral Festival with seven other collegiate choirs (including the mixed choir from UNLV). It's not a contest, but we'll be singing with some of the best collegiate choirs in Southern California, so here's hoping the guys still have voice this evening!

More pics from Vegas will be posted as they become available. For now, you can just picture scenes from the two Hangover movies, substituting Club guys in all the major roles...
